Dear friends!
As some of you may know I have been involved in the Holodomor film-in-the-making for the past several months, working with simply an OUTSTANDING team of professionals who is working tirelessly to make it happen. We wanted to give you a short synopsis of the tremendous filming progress which was made during our three week working visit to Ukraine last month.
I am copying Director, Bobby Leigh, along with Producer, Marta Tomkiw and Executive Producer, Nestor Popowych on this email - as Bobby and Marta were in the trenches during this time (I for one week gratefully!), and we really want to stay close to our friends and the community at large who have so sincerely been supporting and encouraging this film effort from around the world.
We have made a firm commitment to produce this first ever feature-length documentary film in the United States on Ukraine’s genocide, “HOLODOMOR; Ukraine’s Genocide of 1932-33”, and to premiere it in November 2008 to coincide with the global commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of Ukraine’s tragic event.
We plan to premiere the film first in Kyiv, and then in LA, New York, Chicago and Washington DC - and of course go on from there to hopefully tell this dreadful history which was suppressed for all these years, throughout the world.

Much was done in the three week assignment in Ukraine, and I will make a feeble attempt to convey it in a short synopsis here:
There was extensive filming and interviewing of government officials who are at the forefront of bringing Holodomor to light, including the SBU (Interior Defense Ministry), Ukrainian National Archival centers (formerly top-secret), The Institute of National Memory, and several museum directors and historians in all parts of Ukraine.
Filmed interviews were conducted with countless genocide survivors and their families in over 10 regions of Ukraine, and we were received so graciously, by EVERYONE, with overwhelming enthusiasm and a sense of “disbelief” that people from a foreign country were there to take interest in their national tragedy which occurred 75 years ago.
Numerous press conferences were held on an impromptu basis as the excitement grew with our film team’s arrival in every city or town.
We visited many cemeteries with mass graves, and interviewed survivors, witnessing their grieving and personal accounts on site. The emotions by our team were difficult to suppress at times, as I think you can imagine.
Following the Ukraine shoot, we are even more determined and committed to complete this film. The desire is greater than ever for this film to compete with other high-level documentary features on the world stage.
I will keep you updated as we continue to make progress, but in the meantime if you have any questions regarding any of the details, please do not hesitate to call or email, me or certainly any one of the film team’s executive members copied on this email.
Thanking you most sincerely,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
