SENATOR GEORGE VOINOVICH TO DELIVER KEYNOTE SPEECH

AT XX CONGRESS OF UKRAINIANS IN AMERICA BANQUET

New York, NY (UCCA) -- During the UCCA's quadrennial Congress, a formal Congressional Banquet will be held on Saturday, October 18th at the Pokrova Church Hall in Parma, Ohio. The evening's keynote speech will be delivered by Senator George Voinovich, a long-time friend of the Ukrainian American community.

George Voinovich served as Ohio's Governor from 1990 to 1998, prior to being elected to the United States Senate in 1999. As a United States Senator, he serves on several influential committees, including the Foreign Relations Committee and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Environment and Public Works Committee, Clean Air and Nuclear Safety Subcommittee, and the Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce and the District of Columbia Subcommittee. Honored by the Central and East European Coalition for work on issues impacting this part of the world, in particular, NATO enlargement, Senator Voinovich has a long history of supporting newly established democracies. As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he continues to play a key role in helping to craft international policies that foster stronger relations with other countries.

The Mayor of Cleveland, Frank G. Jackson, and Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States, Oleh Shamshur, have also been invited to address the delegates and guests of the banquet. The Banquet will also include entertainment provided by the all-male Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus, under the direction of its newly elected conductor Adrian Bryttan, local Cleveland performers and UCCA's Philadelphia branch choir "Akkolada."

Moreover, during the banquet, there will be an awards ceremony for the recipients of the prestigious Shevchenko Freedom Award, the highest accolade accorded by the UCCA to individuals who have displayed a remarkable understanding and given substantial assistance to the Ukrainian American community and the Ukrainian people.

The UCCA invites the community to attend the XX Congressional banquet, which will be held at the Ukrainian Center in St. Pokrova Church Hall located at 6812 Broadview Road, Parma, Ohio. Cocktail hour will begin at 6PM and the program begins at 700PM. Tickets are $55 per person and may be purchased by contacting the United Ukrainian Organizations of Ohio c/o Wasyl Liscynesky, 5907 State Road, Parma, Ohio 44134, or by telephone at (440) 888-4220.
