A Series of Events Planned to Commemorate the
75th Anniversary of Ukraine's Genocide of 1932-1933

NEW YORK - The now annual national observance to commemorate Ukraine's Genocide of 1932-1933 will take place at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 2PM. As this year marks the 75th anniversary of one of the worst cases of man's inhumanity towards man, and perhaps the most extreme example of the use of food as a weapon, we urge the Ukrainian American community to attend the ecumenical service and honor the millions of innocent victims who perished as a result of the Soviet policy of forced collectivization.

Prior to the ecumenical service, the UCCA NYC Branch, on behalf of the National Committee to Commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Ukraine's Genocide of 1932-1933, will be holding a Food Drive from 9:00AM-1:00PM at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza (East 47th Street, between 1st and 2nd Avenues) before embarking at 1:00PM on a solemn walk to St. Patrick's Cathedral (5th Avenue, between 50th and 51st Streets). "We decided that there is no better way to memorialize our brethren who were starved to death 75 years ago, than by collecting food for today's hungry in New York City," stated Andrij Dobriansky, a UCCA NYC Branch member and one of the initiators of the food drive project.

The National Committee to Commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Ukraine's Genocide of 1932-1933 urges the entire community to participate in the various events of November 15, 2008. Food donated at the Food Drive can include: dry food, baby food, and all types of canned goods, as long as they are all within the expiration date and in the original packaging. For more information please contact the UCCA National Office either by telephone at (212) 228-6840 or by email at: ucca at ucca.org.
