* Advocate Membership into the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus (CUC)

The Congressional Ukrainian Caucus (CUC) has been an important tool in our community's work with the United States Congress. In our decade-long cooperation with this bi-partisan group of Members of Congress, the community is able to promote Ukraine-related issues of concern and advocate legislation that advances U.S.-Ukraine bilateral relations. In past years, with the Caucus' assistance, the Ukrainian community has achieved numerous accomplishments, in particular passage of a bill to construct a memorial to the victims of Ukrainian Famine-Genocide, as well as a bill to 'graduate' Ukraine from the Jackson-Vanik amendment.

Currently, the CUC consists of 41 members. As the new 111th session of Congress begins, the Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS) urges the Ukrainian American community to contact your elected officials in the House of Representatives and encourage them to join the CUC. For your convenience, below please find a sample letter to your congressional representative. You may send it electronically to the Member's website at https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml. Should you require additional information, please contact the UNIS office at (202) 547-0018 or via e-mail at unis at ucca.org.

SAMPLE LETTER

The Honorable (Name)
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Representative (Name):

As a Ukrainian American, I am very much interested in developing a strong and stable strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States. One of the vehicles to assist in this process is the bi-partisan Congressional Ukrainian Caucus (CUC), which was founded in 1997 and currently includes 41 Members of Congress. This group concentrates on expanding the U.S.-Ukraine bilateral relationship and encourages its development through advocating legislation, maintaining a stable level of financing for Ukraine-related programs, and communicating with Ukrainian officials on a wide-range of issues.

Considering the admirable progress Ukraine is making toward democratization and ensuring peace and stability in the region, I believe it is necessary that the United States support its development and encourage further progress. I urge you to join the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus and contribute to U.S. efforts to integrate Ukraine into the Euro-Atlantic community and secure its freedom.

Thank you for your consideration of this request. Please contact Erin Hughes in Rep. Sander Levin's office or Dan Martini in Rep. Jim Gerlach's office to register as a member of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus.
