Special Concert of Cossack Song in

Memory of Hetman Ivan Mazepa and the Battle of Konotop

On 13 December 2009, the Canadian Bandurist Capella will perform Cossack, heroic, traditional and other popular Ukrainian songs dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the death of Hetman Ivan Mazepa and the Cossack victory over Tsarist forces at Konotop 350 years ago.  This Concert of Cossack Song will take place at 85 Christie Street in Toronto at 3pm.

The League of Ukrainian Canadians and the League of Ukrainian Canadian Women are organizing this event together with the Canadian Bandurist Capella, because 2009 is the year of Mazepa, which was proclaimed by the League of Ukrainian Canadians some time ago.  Lord Byron, Voltaire, Hugo, Gericault, Delacroix, Verne and others were among the many famous poets, artists and composers, who praised Mazepa.  Given these facts, Oleh Romanyshyn, LUC President, stated that it is important for Ukrainian artists to praise Hetman Ivan Mazepa and Cossack victories over foreign forces.

The Canadian Bandurist Capella is a forty-member Ukrainian male choir, accompanied by the unique harp-like sound of the sixty-five string bandura.  The musical pieces that the Capella performs, are steeped in the traditional kobzar art form, dating back to historical Cossack times. Their entertaining style and repertoire consists of epic historic folk songs, sacred music, as well as modern compositions. Colourful costumes, powerful voices and spectacular harmony are their trademark, as the Canadian Bandurist Capella will delight you at the Concert.

Organizers of the Concert of Cossack Song are expected to convey to the audience the importance of the battles at Konotop and Poltava.

Унікальний Концерт козацької пісні в честь

гетьмана Івана Мазепи і битви під Конотопом

13 грудня 2009 р. відбудеться урочистий Концерт козацької пісні у виконанні Капели бандуристів Канади з нагоди 300-ої річниці смерті видатного гетьмана України Івана Мазепи і 350-ої річниці перемози козацького війська над царською армією під Конотопом.  Концерт відбудеться у приміщені Українського культурного центру при вул. 85 Christie Street у м. Торонто о 3-ій годині по полудні. 

Ліґа українців Канади і Ліґа українок Канади організовують цей концерт спільно з Капелою бандуристів Канади тому, що 2009 рік є роком Мазепи, якого вихваляли та оспівували відомі поети, художники та композитори світового характеру.  Лорд Байрон, Вольтер, Гюґо, Жеріко, Делакруа, Верне та інші є серед мистців які вихваляли гетьмана Івана Мазепу.  Олег Романишин, голова Крайової Управи ЛУК підкреслив, що так само потрібно щоб сьогодні сучасні майстри та мистці оспівували постать гетьмана Івана Мазепи і перемоги славного козацького війська.

У репертуарі Капели бандуристів Канади будуть виконуватися козацькі пісні, думи, декламації акомпановані бандурами, канти та інші популярні народні пісні.  Капела бандуристів Канади об'єднує в собі хорове звучання 40 співаків iз супроводом бандури.  Бархатні костюми та яскраві голоси виконавців капели захоплюють та зачаровують Вас.  

Організатури концерту очікують підкреслити важливість подій під Конотопом і Полтавою та запрошують усю українську громаду і нащадків козаків на унікальний Концерт козацької пісні.
