Zinchuk Memorial Fund and Golf Tournament* * *Ivan ?John? Zinchuk Memorial Tournament ? Saturday, June 4, 2011 Indian Wells Golf Club ?Burlington, Ontario The Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko ( www.shevchenkofoundation.com) has recently established the ?Ivan (John) Zinchuk Memorial Fund?. We lost John Zinchuk at the young age of 50 on November 4, 2009. John was born and raised in Edmonton, AB. In addition to being involved in countless local choirs and ensembles, John was involved with two world-renowned, North American based Ukrainian ensembles. He was a soloist and past-president of Canada?s Ukrainian Shumka Dancers (Edmonton, AB; shumka.com) and a vocal soloist of the Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America (Detroit, MI; bandura.org). In order for John?s memory to live on, we wanted to set up the above-mentioned ?Ivan (John) Zinchuk Memorial Fund? with the Shevchenko Foundation. The goal of the fund would be to establish a set amount (targeting a minimum of $20,000) which would award "scholarships" each year from the interest earned by the fund. The scholarships would support tuition and travel for worthy applicants to attend the annual Kobzarska Sich camp ( bandura.org/bandura_school.htm). One award would be a full scholarship for a participant to the full two-week "bandura camp" portion of the musical program, and another would be a full scholarship to the one-week "vocal workshop" portion of the program. If enough funds were raised, we could also entertain the idea of adding a third "sponsorship"... perhaps to facilitate the support of a "guest/special instructor" at the camp. *The goal is to raise the $20,000 by holding a one-time fundraising golf tournament in the Toronto area. T*his tournament is being held on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Indian Wells Golf Club. ** * * *To find out how to become a SPONSOR of the Golf Tournament and/or SIGN UP for the Golf Tournament, please contact OREST SKLIERENKO, Chairman of the Ivan ?John? Boasting a repertoire of more than 500 songs, this internationally celebrated and award-winning ensemble has captivated audiences in major concert halls in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Ukraine since immigrating to North America from Europe in 1949. They have also performed for such noted personalities as former President Richard Nixon, former President Ronald Reagan, movie star Jack Palance, and former President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk. Most recently, the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus was featured at the internationally renowned *Stratford Summer Music Festival*, and presented *Bandura Christmas International* with Metropolitan Opera soloist Paul Plishka. As a tribute to its role in preserving and perpetuating the legacy of Ukrainian music, the Chorus was selected by Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers as the *recipient of the Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian State Prize, the highest award that can be bestowed for excellence in the contribution to the arts*. *www.bandura.org* * * * * -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
