The UZONews Mailing List

Dear Community of the Ukrainian Internet,

I am grateful to all people who acepted our invitation to join the UZONews, a public news mailing list under patronage of the United Ukrainian Organizations of Greater Cleveland (Ukrayinski Zlucheni Organizatsiyi - UZO - www.clevelanduzo.org).

Many of us might have encountered a situation, when we learned with a disappointment that the event, we were interested in, happened a long time ago. Very often information in the Ukrainian Community is disseminated in a form of paper flyers, placed in places the Ukrainians visit often: churches, stores, banks, etc; therefore to spot a flyer that might be of interest to you, you need to be in the right place at the right time. This does not happens all the time. Those, who use e-mail, have very often their own net for exchanging information. Unfortunately, that net is limited in the most to relatives, friends, and colleagues, with whom, in between personal meetings, we communicate through e-mail.

The purpose of the UZONews is to provide an easy way for exchanging news among numerous members of the Ukrainian community both in the Greater Cleveland area and outside it, in electronic format. I hope that this list will become a powerful, reliable, and fast channel for distribution of information, but it wont happen without your help.

First task is to invite as many people as possible to participate in the list. if each of us invites a dozen of people from their own e-mail net, who are interested in the Ukrainian community life, to join the list, together we can create a wide informational net. Second task is to fill the mailing list with useful and interesting messages. I have to disappoint those who think that a powerful informational agency with a developed net of paid employees, who do not sleep 24 hours a day searching for hot news, stands behind the UZONews. The UZONews is us together, who has signed for this mailing list. And each of us can make a contribution to the success of it. Therefore I invite all of you who are involved in the community life or in some aspects of it, to post to the UZONews your announcements about coming events, reports about past events, analytical reviews and articles that might be of interest for the whole community.

To post your message, send it by e-mail to uzonews@clevelanduzo.org. Send the messages in English or Ukrainian, or better in both languages to cover wider circle of recipients. To reproduce letters of the Ukrainian alphabet properly, use Windows Cyrillic encoding (Code Page 1251) for outgoing and incoming mail messages.

This list is moderated; therefore each message will be reviewed by a moderator before sending to the list subscribers. Some of the messages might appear on the UZO website (www.clevelanduzo.org ). If you have private questions on the UZONews to the list administrator, write to uzonews-owner@clevelanduzo.org.
